An Integrative Perspective for Anxiety Disorders: An Intensive Focus on the Treatments
This program was presented on April 30, 2005
Presenter: Barry Wolfe, PhD
Dr. Wolfe will present a more intensive focus on the specific treatments he employs in his integrative psychotherapy for anxiety disorders. The treatment of anxiety is divided into an initial symptom-focus phase to help the patient gain some control over his or her anxiety symptoms, and a later depth-focus phase that attempts to heal the underlying self-wounds that generate the anxiety symptoms. The symptom-focused treatment involves a modified cognitive-behavioral approach that includes diaphragmatic breathing, cognitive restructuring, and exposure to the feared stimulus. The depth-oriented treatment combines experiential, cognitive and psychodynamic interventions. The treatments will be considered in detail and illustrated with case presentations.
